"Kijk op de Zaanstreek"  first book by Joke Koelemeijer

On Saturday 3rd December 2005 Joke Koelemeijer’s first book was launched. The first copy was very proudly handed out to Mr. Molenaar from Wormerveer around half past eleven in the showroom of the framing business ‘de Lijstemaecker’ in Wormer. Joke is the owner of this framing business.

‘Kijk op de Zaanstreek’ (translation: A view at the Zaan area) is a collection of nearly a hundred of Joke’s ink drawings. They were made for her calendars in the period 1994 – 2005. She had made so many of them that she wanted to collect them and show them to a larger audience. It took her about six months to get the job done, but the result is very beautiful.

The drawings are of picturesque or nostalgic places and sites in the villages and towns of the Zaan area: Westzaan, Assendelft, Wormerveer, Wormer, Krommenie, Krommeniedijk, Spijkerboor, Zaanse Schans windmill park, Oostknollendam and Jisp. Some drawings were commissioned but so special that they were added: a seal bride and groom –for an engaged couple – and an Amsterdam house in Beulingstraat, Amsterdam.

Joke published the book herself and unfortunately it has been sold out.
