joke koelemeijer and her art
Joke Koelemeijer,
Born 1954, living in Wormer, North Holland, framer since September 2001, has been painting watercolours since 1991. About fifteen years ago she started drawing in ink and turned these drawings into calendars of the island of Terschelling and the Zaan area. She loves to be outside and therefore enjoys painting, photographing and sketching the world around her. Nature, flowers and landscapes are her favourites, if only it has to do with ‘water’ in all its aspects. (subjects: boats, harbour, sea, ice, snow)
Trained to be an English teacher she started to explore watercolour painting in 1991. Mostly autodidact, self-trained, she works rather realistic, ‘you have to be able to see what it is’ is her idea. ‘If I start something abstract I seem to keep on painting until you can see what it is, too many details and no more abstraction’.
After five years she started teaching watercolour painting and has done so for twelve years now. Teaching inspires her own work. Besides being a teacher, framer and artist she does stage painting for the drama club in her town.
In 2006/2007 she started acrylic painting and really loved the bright colours she used. A completely different result compared with her watercolours! The etching technique is the last addition to her work. Subjects for her etchings are landscapes, animals and the human model.
She gladly does commissions such as ink drawings or watercolours of houses and wall painting. Other possibilities are a picture of a car, boat, or bridal flowers. The design of a wedding announcement, opening etc.
Her creativity doesn’t stop at drawing and painting, in 2005 she published a book with 97 of her ink drawings. It is called “Kijk op de Zaanstreek”, and can be obtained for € 25 at ‘de Lijstemaecker’, Oosteinde 1 in Wormer.
